Too often we bask in our comfortable complacency and rationalize that the ravages of war, economic disaster, famine, and earthquake cannot happen here. Those who believe this are either not acquainted with the revelations of the Lord, or they do not believe them. Those who smugly think these calamities will not happen, that they somehow will be set aside because of the righteousness of the Saints, are deceived and will rue the day they harbored such a delusion. - Ezra Taft Benson

If we are generous with our means....

If we are generous with our means, there is no need for anyone to go without.

"There is no necessity for any man, woman, or child in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to go without, for the Church is organized to help those who lack the necessities of life. There is plenty for all, and to spare. … God has permitted men to get wealth, and if they obtained it properly, it is theirs, and he will bless them in its use if they will use it properly.
We are becoming so wrapped up with the world that we forget the people who are suffering that we could help, in many cases.

Why Aren't We Prepared?

For many, many years, Prophets of God have told us to prepare for any eventuality.  They've given specific counsel as to spiritual and temporal preparedness.  They've taught us to learn and hone good skills, educate our minds and spirits, rear children in righteousness, and stay away from harmful things.

Yes, we're pretty dumb sometimes.  We think, as did many in the days of Noah, that things won't happen to us here or soon and that we will have 'plenty of time' in the future to prepare.

God's Hand in the Founding of America

I love America.  We are SO blessed to live in the 'land of the free'.  But, at what cost?  What are our personal responsibilities and how do we maintain our freedoms that are under attack and under threat of being even more greatly diminished?

I found this amazing article by L. Tom Perry - one of my heroes.  It's packed full of information concerning the Founding of America and the blessings of liberty.  We will be free based on personal righteousness.  That is our obligation, responsibility and God-given choice.

Potential of a Righteous Government

John Adams understood the potential of a righteous government when he wrote:
“Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible as their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. Every member would be obligated in conscience to temperance and frugality and industry, to justice and kindness and charity toward his fellowmen, and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God. In this commonwealth no man would impair his health with gluttony, drunkenness or lust. No man would sacrifice his precious time to cards or trifling with other mean amusements. No man would steal or lie or in any way defraud his neighbor, but would live in peace and good will toward all men. No man would blaspheme his Maker or profane his worship, but a rational and manly, a sincere and unaffected devotion would reign in the hearts of all men. What a utopia, what a paradise this region would be.”
