Too often we bask in our comfortable complacency and rationalize that the ravages of war, economic disaster, famine, and earthquake cannot happen here. Those who believe this are either not acquainted with the revelations of the Lord, or they do not believe them. Those who smugly think these calamities will not happen, that they somehow will be set aside because of the righteousness of the Saints, are deceived and will rue the day they harbored such a delusion. - Ezra Taft Benson

Goals for 2014 - Will We Put the Lord First?

Second Coming of Jesus Christ
May we contemplate the most important matters this year as we set our 'goals' for 2014?

What would the Lord have us do?

Who would He have us become?

What can we do to let go of the past and move forward into the future in a better and more refined state-of-being?

Ezra Taft Benson said this:
"Men are tried and tested in this mortal probation to see if they will put first in their lives the kingdom of God. (See Matt. 6:33.) To gain eternal life, they must be willing, if called upon, to sacrifice all things for the gospel. “If thou wilt be perfect,” Jesus said to the rich young man, “go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.” (Matt. 19:21.)
Hearing this injunction, Peter said, “Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?”
"To this query, our Lord replied, “Every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.” (Matt. 19:27, 29; see also D&C 132:55.)"
The reason we are into "Preparedness" is because the Lord has told us to be.  Those who hear and heed this counsel will be blessed.  Those who don't, won't.
This morning I posted on my personal blog my beliefs about 'New Year's Resolutions" etc. and how we truly need the Lord's help in order to become what He'd have us become.  We really can't do it on our own no matter how much we think we can.  But, with His help, we can do anything if we are humble, meek, submissive, obedient, and faithful.  That is the main quest for this year, 2014, as well as any other year.  What a blessing it is to know this and to 'believe' it!
