Too often we bask in our comfortable complacency and rationalize that the ravages of war, economic disaster, famine, and earthquake cannot happen here. Those who believe this are either not acquainted with the revelations of the Lord, or they do not believe them. Those who smugly think these calamities will not happen, that they somehow will be set aside because of the righteousness of the Saints, are deceived and will rue the day they harbored such a delusion. - Ezra Taft Benson

Prepared for WHAT???

Many of us are aware of the global events that are occurring in this day and age.  Some of them seem to be increasing in size and frequency.

We speak of Preparedness - and we wonder "Prepared for What?"

Prophets of God have prophesied of calamities in the 'last day'.  Those who are aware and striving to heed their counsel will be blessed.

During the time of Noah, few believed him and only 8 were saved from the flood.

Followers of Christ, in all ages, have sought diligently to know His mind and will so that they could heed it.  We would do well to do the same.

Through His servants, Prophets of God and other chosen leaders, we receive counsel for our day.  That is the blessing of 'modern day revelation'.  We love and learn from the scriptures, and from those who have gone before us, and we also are given revelation for our day - just as those in the times of Noah were given revelation for their day and those in the time of Moses - received what was needful for them.  We have those amazing teachings to give us a good foundation and to learn of how God speaks to His people, which prepares us to receive His word for us in our day.  The Heavens are NOT closed and what a WONDERFUL gift that is for us.

So, as we speak about being 'prepared' it's a life style - often attained by sincere heed and real diligence.  As we learn something new - we are given the opportunity to hear and listen and obey or to reject and ignore.

We're the ones 'on trial' here.  Not God.

So, He teaches us that 'calamities' will happen in the last days before the Second Coming of the Savior. And, He warns us so that we can prepare and humble ourselves to rely on Him to be able to prepare in all ways; temporally, spiritually, and emotionally.

One of the most important things we can do is to repent and turn to Him.  Repentance is a beautiful gift as it clears the cobwebs and opens a conduit of fellowship with Him again.
